Service 01
High-Efficiency Gas Boilers & Hydronic Heat
High-efficiency boilers are our specialty. If you have a fuel oil boiler or an older inefficient unit, upgrading to a condensing gas or propane boiler can cut your fuel costs by 60% at current prices. Every system we install is sized with a computerized Manual J heat loss calculation to ensure you get the right boiler for your home.
- Fuel oil to natural gas/propane conversions
- High-efficiency condensing boiler installation
- Hydronic system design and piping layouts
- 60% lower operating cost vs. fuel oil
Service 02
Infloor Radiant Heat
Infloor hydronic heat is one of the most comfortable and efficient ways to heat a home. Whether you are building new or upgrading an existing home, warm floors eliminate cold spots and deliver even heat throughout every room. We design every infloor system in LoopCad with proper tubing layouts, manifold sizing, and heat output calculations.
- New construction and retrofit installations
- On-slab, above-subfloor, and below-subfloor options
- Custom tubing layout designed in LoopCad
- Hundreds of infloor systems designed and installed
Service 03
Panel Radiators & Hydronic Retrofits
If your home already has hydronic heat and you want to add comfort to a new room, an addition, or a cold zone, flat panel radiators are an elegant solution. We can also add zones (separate thermostats) to your existing boiler system so every area of your home is individually controlled.
- Zone additions to existing boiler systems
- Flat panel radiators and towel warmers
- Solid European-quality construction
- Clean, modern look that fits any interior

Furnaces & Air Conditioning
A high-efficiency furnace upgrade is one of the fastest ways to cut energy costs and increase comfort. If your home has forced-air ductwork, we can add central air conditioning for summer cooling. No ductwork? We install ductless mini-split heat pumps that provide cooling and supplemental heat without tearing into walls.
- High-efficiency furnace replacements
- Central A/C addition to existing ductwork
- Ductless mini-split heat pump installation
- Heating and cooling in one unit (mini-splits)
Common Questions
HVAC Services — Frequently Asked Questions
What HVAC services does Design Heating offer in Duluth, MN?
Design Heating designs and installs high-efficiency gas and propane boilers, hydronic infloor radiant heat, European panel radiators, ground-source geothermal heat pumps, high-efficiency furnaces, central air conditioning, and ductless mini-split heat pumps. Every system is sized using ACCA Manual J heat-loss calculations and installed by our own trained crews — never subcontracted.
Do you size every system with Manual J?
Yes. Every heating and cooling system we quote is sized using computerized ACCA Manual J heat-loss and heat-gain calculations specific to your home. We use Duluth's -19°F design temperature (or your city's actual design temperature) rather than rules of thumb. For forced-air systems we also run Manual D to verify ductwork can deliver the required airflow.
Which HVAC service is right for my Duluth-area home?
It depends on your existing system, fuel options, and home layout. For homes with hydronic heat (cast-iron radiators or baseboard), a high-efficiency condensing boiler is usually the best upgrade. For ducted homes, a 95%+ AFUE furnace plus central AC is standard. Homes on larger lots should consider geothermal — it cuts heating cost 40–70% and qualifies for the 30% federal tax credit. We model multiple options during our free in-home consultation.
Do you install equipment you didn't originally specify?
We typically install equipment we've specified in our own design — Viessmann, Lochinvar, Navien, Buderus, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, WaterFurnace, ClimateMaster, and similar tier-1 brands. If you have a specific brand preference we're happy to discuss it, but we won't install equipment we can't stand behind.
How long does a typical HVAC installation take?
A like-for-like boiler or furnace replacement is usually completed in 1–2 working days. Fuel-oil-to-gas conversions, infloor radiant retrofits, and panel radiator zone additions typically take 2–5 days. Whole-home geothermal installs (including ground loops) typically take 1–2 weeks. We provide a written timeline before work begins.
Do you offer financing or take advantage of rebates?
Yes. We work with third-party HVAC lenders for 0% APR financing on qualifying systems, and we help every customer capture available manufacturer rebates, Minnesota Power and Comfort Systems utility rebates, and the federal 30% Inflation Reduction Act tax credit for geothermal and qualifying heat pumps. See our Financing & Rebates page for current programs.
